September 6: In the other zone
Today's live cast was one of those morning sessions over coffee, and I dove straight into what I've been obsessed with all weekend: creating shapes and tools for digitally recreating my art journal pages — bits I can play with and layer without guilt over "wasting" the original.
It's occurring to me how much collage is such a perfect tie between graphic design and fine art. I've never been all that keen on straight-up digital art. But taking my handmade bits and using digital tools to tweak them — without losing that handmade quality — has become the sweet spot for my art journal practice.
Design is genuinely my wheelhouse; I was a graphic artist back in the years before computers took over the industry. So this feels like coming full circle. Added a few more marks and shapes to the growing list of bits that need to get moved onto my iPad for tweaking.
