September 5: Deepest apologies
I totally spaced and missed my 7pm live time. Ran downstairs at 8 and recorded anyway. Apologies to anyone who showed up and waited on me — that one's on me.
I'd love to blame it on Alabama's season opener, but that game was actually early (and the whole reason I didn't schedule the live even earlier to begin with). What I actually did during the game was sift through a really cool collage art book I picked up years ago. The vases and shapes cut from gelli plate prints in it were sublime — the kind of thing that makes you want to play immediately.
I knew I wanted to try something similar, without sacrificing my favorite precious prints in the process. That's exactly why I love working with digital printouts so much — you get to play without the fear of ruining something irreplaceable.
Today, with that book still on my mind, I cut a bunch of Rex Ray-meets-Matisse shapes out of plain brown paper. I wanted the crude edge of scissors and knife, not a perfect vector curve. Next up: scanning these shapes and working some digital magic. Stay tuned for some fun chunks of fodder.
